The Rotary Club of Concord hosted an Appreciation Continental Breakfast for the Concord Police and Fire Departments to honor the first responders who sacrifice each day for the protection of the community. Held at Concord's Tricon Church Parish Hall on 9/11/15, the event featured presentations of the Al Filipov Award for Courage and Service to Inspector Richard Hodgson of the Concord Police Department and Firefighter Marcus Jackson of the Concord Fire Department. In presenting the awards, Rotary Club President Sharon Spaulding explained that the award is made in memory of Al Filipov, a Rotarian and human rights activist who died in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. In addition to the awards, the Rotary Club made donations in the recipient's names to their favorite charities: Stand Up for Kids in Marcus Jackson's name, and Communities for Restorative Justice in Richard Hodgson's name.
