THE GOOD OF GOLF

Enthusiastic golfers teed off under sunny skies and comfortable temperatures on Aug 20 2012 at the Thomas R. Huckins Memorial Golf Tournament, Rotary Club of Concord’s 24^th annual golf event. No Hurricane Irene this year!  

Many Rotary and community volunteers worked to assure the success of the tournament, chief among them tournament chairs Rick Beers, Sandra Cassella, Phyllis Maurer and Joe Saia. Scholarships will be funded for students entering college in September 2013, thanks to the major sponsors, Hammond Residential Real Estate and Middlesex Savings Bank, along with Tee and Green Sponsors.  Generous donations to the silent auction, and generous bidders who supported the auction, provided an added benefit.

First place winners Andy Mahoney with his teammates B. Kelly, Dave Swan and W. Muggie came in at 139 (one under par) narrowly edging out the second place foursome of Ed Fitzgerald, Frank Vumbaca, T. White and R. Saha whose score was 140.  But all agreed it wasn’t just the challenge of the game that made for a great day, it was the camaraderie and the chance to support an important cause, the Concord Carlisle Scholarship Fund.
