Provocation or Observations: President Steve reminded us that OCTOBERFEST is only a few weeks away, and lots of volunteers are needed. Some advertising will be done on Facebook. All Club members may be called upon to get involved

Question of the Week: President Steve asked about the minimum size of a striped bass that can be kept by a fisherman. Answer: 28 inches. No fine collected as Dick Hale and Henry Dane knew the right answer!

Announcements: Ray Pfau, from the Nashoba Valley Club reviewed a program scheduled October 27 featuring Razia Jan of the Ray of Hope Foundation. There is a reception before the speaking event for those who wish to make a larger donation. Nashoba Valley is also organizing an International Global Grant to provide a Midwifery Program for post-secondary students in Afghanistan.
President Steve described a program featuring Governor Charlie Baker on Tuesday, September 27 at the Doubletree Bedford Glen in Bedford. The event runs from 5:00 to 9:00, and the Governor should present at 6:30. He is seeking a partnership with Rotary on issues such as homelessness, the opioid crisis, mental illness, etc. Steve shared a video he presented for the meeting with the Governor which was well received by those present. This will be our Meeting of the Week.

Program: Ruth Armknecht introduced
Julia Rayberg, the Co-Founder of Worthy Village, an organization helping to build pathways out of poverty. Julia thanked our Club for making a previous contribution to this organization. She had made a trip to Guatemala and was exposed to extreme poverty. She shared several powerful stories that described the need for their efforts. They focus on economic opportunities by re-selling goods they produce in Guatemala, on health care as most residents in the area have never seen a doctor, and on basic education such as brushing teeth and hand washing. Julia described a trip to Guatemala for Rotarians from February 4 through February 11 to deliver water filtration systems to local residents. To learn more, see

Next Week’s Meeting: Tuesday morning at 7:30, but no regular meeting on Thursday, October 29th. The Governor Baker event on Tuesday night (the 27th) is the meeting of the week.
